January 3rd 2025: Arrival day in Kilimanjaro

Welcome to the heart of your adventure. As you touch down in Kilimanjaro, anticipation fills the air. Our team will whisk you to your comfortable Moshi hotel, where you can settle in and begin your journey of preparation and acclimatization.

January 4th 2025: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Elevation: 1,640 meters (5,380 feet) to 2,835 meters (9,300 feet)
Distance: 11 km (7 miles)
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
Habitat: Rainforest

Itinerary:

Depart from Moshi and drive to Machame Gate.
Complete registration and begin the hike through dense rainforest.
The path can be muddy and slippery.
Reach Machame Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

January 5th 2025: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Elevation: 2,835 meters (9,300 feet) to 3,750 meters (12,300 feet)
Distance: 5 km (3 miles)
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours
Habitat: Moorland

Itinerary:

Continue the trek through the forest until reaching the steep ascent onto the moorland.
Enjoy views of the Shira Plateau.
Arrive at Shira Camp for dinner and overnight stay.

January 6th 2025: Shira Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Elevation: 3,750 meters (12,300 feet) to 4,630 meters (15,190 feet) to 3,950 meters (12,960 feet)
Distance: 10 km (6 miles)
Hiking Time: 6-8 hours
Habitat: Semi-desert

Itinerary:

Head east up a ridge and then southeast towards Lava Tower.
Spend some time at Lava Tower (acclimatization point).
Descend to Barranco Camp, passing through the "Garden of the Senecios."
Overnight at Barranco Camp.

January 7th 2025: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 3,950 meters (12,960 feet) to 4,235 meters (13,900 feet)
Distance: 5 km (3 miles)
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Itinerary:

Conquer the Barranco Wall, a non-technical but steep climb.
Traverse up and down the valleys to Karanga Valley.
Arrive at Karanga Camp for overnight stay.

January 8th 2025: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 4,235 meters (13,900 feet) to 4,640 meters (15,200 feet)
Distance: 4 km (2 miles)
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert

Itinerary:

Ascend to the intersection of the Mweka Trail.
Continue up to Barafu Camp.
Rest, have an early dinner, and prepare for the summit attempt.
Overnight at Barafu Camp.

January 9th 2025: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,640 meters (15,200 feet) to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) to 3,100 meters (10,170 feet)
Distance: 5 km (3 miles) ascent, 12 km (7 miles) descent
Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent, 4-6 hours descent
Habitat: Arctic to Rainforest

Itinerary:

Begin the final ascent around midnight.
Reach Stella Point on the crater rim just before dawn.
Continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
After photos and a brief rest, begin the descent to Barafu Camp for a short break.
Continue descending to Mweka Camp for an overnight stay.

January 10th 2025: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Elevation: 3,100 meters (10,170 feet) to 1,640 meters (5,380 feet)
Distance: 10 km (6 miles)
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest

Itinerary:

Continue the descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.
Collect your summit certificates.
Drive back to Moshi for celebration and rest.

The final day is dedicated to airport transfers. Breakfast is included at our hotel. Team members will be shuttled to
the airport depending on flight times.
